The performance, Rope Passions at Play, produced by Artemis Hunter and sponsored by Domina Dea, was a huge success.  The weeks preceding the event were carefully planned and the evening was one that I won’t soon forget.  It’s one of the best rope events I’ve attended this year since Atlanta Bound in March.

There were four performances.  The first by Artemis Hunter and Ginger Myrrh was a highly erotic dance of the veils, rope, and floggers to the music from Phantom of the Opera.

Noted rope artist, author, and educator, Lee Harrington was the second performer.  Dressed as a deliciously impish Pan-like character, complete with furry pants, he took charge of his prey in a moving example of  power exchange.  The scene ended with Lee putting rope cuffs on himself and led off the stage by his prey.

One of our own, Tat and his sassy, used knife play in a sadistic inverted suspension.  Then, Lee then returned for an encore in the role of a shy boi seducing a pretty girl with his rope.  It was quite sweet and hot.  Afterward, he sat on the dais along with Artemis and Tat and took questions.

Tat described how he became interested in rope, taught himself, improving his techniques by practice, attending the past two Atlanta Bound workshops, practice, and Shibaricon in Chicago, and more practice.

Artemis, a nationally known sensual rope artist/instructor, used Tat as an example of home grown talent.  In just a few years, rope bondage in Atlanta has grown from a small thread to the thriving community of inspirational rope artists that it is today.

Suspending Larger Folks: Lee Harrington

I think this man rocks!  Not only has he been on both sides of the gender slash, but both sides of D/s and S&M.  I ran across this blog she wrote in essence disproving myths about suspending larger folks.

Suspending Larger Folks

Folks have asked me recently, can you suspend larger folks? All the porn is of tiny people. Yes, you can.Its all about weight distribution. The largest person I have ever suspended was about 350. Think of it like wearing high heels. If you are wearing tennis shoes, your weight, walking around, distributes across all that space. Go into pumps, half that space. Stillettos, 1/20th of the original space. Of course it hurts.

Going up on a sling, or in a hammock, is an easy place to start for larger people getting off the ground- lots of pressure distribution! Other options- more wraps of rope, wider ropes, webbing instead of rope, doing more sets of bands around the body, etc.

The fewer wraps/thinner rope/fewer points on the body- more it challenges/hurts.

Also look at the shape of the person. If the larger person is female and had one of those awesome bubble butts, instead of building the hip-harness/swiss seat to have wraps at the waist and upper thighs- distribute the pressure to where the wraps are needed- around the middle of the widest area of the rump. Instead of 2 areas, wrap at 3 areas.

Hanging up a big guy? If he is the big shoulder type, instead of one set of shoulder straps cutting in, distribute the pressure by having 2 or 3 sets of shoulder straps, or even adding a complete web of rope for him to lean into. Instead of just having the chest harness go once under and once over the tits, add more support around the widest part of the upper arms/chest, making sure to secure it so it doesn’t slide up and strangle him.

Is the big guy big around the middle? What about avoiding face-down poses that would distend the midsection, and lay him on his back. Build a web around his lower back, between the hip harness and chest harness, so the weight of his belly has somewhere to rest. Add extra support at the thighs, and voila, rope fuck-sling!

So yes, its totally possible to hang big folks in the air. It’s just not likely to be done comfortably with 4mm rope around the ankles and hauled up. And that is ok.

And really, hammocks are fun. Nylon ones are machine washable too for when the lube gets all over it

Whipping Rope Ends

Often, the whipped ends fly off my rope and I have to do them again.  I suppose I could knot them, but it is so much smoother pulling whipped ends through small spaces.  Here’s a great instructional video on whipping rope ends by the Two Knotty Boys, TKB.

Frikkin Melee Broke Out!

Last night I went to some friend’s home for “rope practice.” The usual suspects were there with more arriving as the evening progressed. It’s a pretty pansexual group, a mixed bag, several maso dominants, an even number of switches that mostly bottom to the ones that are mostly tops. Four of us were riggers. Me and another woman, Joi, were working on the host, Bobby, the third rigger. Most of the time we are busy tying others and don’t get a chance to fly ourselves. The fourth, French Chris, was working on a very well endowed female bottom.

I have this gorgeous beefcake in my ropes who, a couple of days earlier, told me what he wanted to experience. He wanted to feel hemp on his body again. He wanted to be in Nik-space.

Together with Joi, we worked out a plan. He didn’t want a double banded pearl style chest harness that focused on his nipples but one that was different and would support him comfortably.

There was a Plan A, a face down suspension and B, a side suspension. Luckily, Plan A worked out. I put four bands of rope just under his chest that went right under his nipples and fashioned an asymmetrical strap; two doubles across the front and a double across the left shoulder. Joi put a gun holster harness on his lower half. It was very supportive as well as beautiful. I tied his hands behind his last.

Bobby’s suspension was a two point suspension. He was in a semi upright position facing down with his head higher than his butt. The first point was the back of the chest harness, the second was the hip harness. I tried his technique of using a metal circle larks-headed from the rope on his body to the rope that was to go through the suspension ring. I ran the run rope through the ring twice to lift him up. This setup functioned as a pulley. It made lifting him smoother than if it was rope on rope.

Joi, who rigged his bottom half, was unmerciful in her sadism. I watched him closely, but, (call it voyeurism, I don’t care,) as she used a quirt, I think on his cock and balls, I was wincing. She probably bit it too. He was complaining a lot. Bobby was a trooper though.

All the while we were scene-ing; there were constant playful interruptions by the peanut gallery, which Joi handled in her unique way. “Leave us alone or I’m going to fxxk you up!” *grin*

Bobby was up for about 20 minutes. Taking him down was a little tricky, but he was fine. His aftercare was supplied by Joi and mine was leaving the ropes on him until he took them off himself. Some rope bottoms like to stay in the ropes afterward.

Once he gathered his wits about him, (it took about 10 minutes,) Bobby pulled out the quirt she had used and turned the tables! Soon, just about everyone was in on the action, with the exception of 4 people, all tops. We had our butts firmly planted out of the way. Among the weapons were quirts, rope whips, short single tails, a wooden samurai sword paddle, a plexi-glass paddle, another wooden paddle broken on a ‘hard ass,’ and a rubber hose. There may have been more, but that’s what I remember.

After watching this escalating for 15 minutes, hubs said “Let’s go.” He even collected my rope!

As an observer, it was an erotic and stimulating experience for me too.  I enjoyed the rest of the day, buffeted by the rope energy that permeated the presentation.
